Gasoline is a hydrocarbon fuel, meaning individual molecules hold carbon and hydrogen simultaneously. Each kind of gas has a different combination of these hydrocarbons and the octane in fuel is resistant to spontaneous exploding. The higher the octane level, the less chance you’ll have of experiencing a knocking engine while your car is running. Continuing with our explanation of the 4 different gas types you can put in your car, we’ll be explaining the benefits of premium gasoline along with a completely different type of fuel, diesel.
Premium: Many newer cars are made to only run on premium gas, as the updated technology within the engines simply cannot function on lower grade fuel. Engines with a high compression ratio will require premium fuel in order to prevent knocking and though some knock is okay, a lot can lead to problems down the road.
Diesel: If your car runs on diesel fuel, it’s important to only put diesel fuel into your car. Unlike the other 3 gas types, which can be interchangeable if your car is built for it, diesel fuel is entirely different and regular gasoline engines will not run on diesel and vice versa. Diesel is a petroleum based fuel that is considered to be a much more eco-friendly fuel choice than regular gasoline as it emits very small amounts of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide.
